Text Box: A devotional thought that crossed my path recently began with the question, “Are you dead or alive?” It was Monday morning, and I had to ponder that for awhile. Of course, the stress of the devotion was not my physical or mental state on Mondays but the difference between mere existence and real life. This is definitely a valid contrast to consider because so many have only an existence while others are experiencing real life. Being physically alive and performing normal life functions is not the same as living. Real life is related to one’s spiritual well-being. The Word of God tells us that in our trespasses and sins we are spiritually dead and separated from God who is the source of life. We are able to move from mere existence to real life through accepting God’s gift of life, His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the LIFE (John 14:6).” On another occasion he taught, “I am come that they might have LIFE and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10).” Thanks be to God that He gave us the gift of LIFE
