“Praise ye the Lord. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints.
Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
Statement : “The reason we sing, the reason we lift our voice is more than just making harmony. The reason we sing is to praise the One who gave His Son to be the reason we sing.”
Purpose :
The Psalmist, David, wrote “I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing Praise to my God as long as I live.” Truly it is a joy to serve the Lord and to bless Him with our songs of praise. One of the world’s greatest composer’s, Franz Joseph Haydn, wrote these words in his biographical sketch: “I offer all my praises to Almighty God, for I owe them to Him alone.” In all our music, we give the praise to God alone. My personal philosophy has always been and will continue to be... “if a song doesn’t have a message...if it does not preach and exalt Christ, don’t sing it.” We at Calvary Baptist Church want to exalt Christ for He is our Song. He is the reason we sing. We claim by our faith that “God is good all the time...and all the time God is good.”
The last performance Joseph Haydn attended was the oratorio he finished composing at the age of 66... “The Creation.” It was written to inspire the adoration and worship of God, and to put the listener in a frame of mind Where he is most susceptible to the kindness and omnipotence of the Creator. Hayden recalled that he was never more devout as when he composed “The Creation.” He told a friend “I knelt down each day to pray to God to give me strength for my work.” During that last performance he attended of “The Creation,” the audience applauded enthusiastically. Haydn lifted his hands toward heaven and said “Not from Me------from there, above, comes everything.” We recognize where our song comes from and to whom we sing. Each of us involved in the Ministry of Music at Calvary Baptist Church echo the words of Hayden... “Laus Deo” or “Soli Deo Gloria”.... “To God alone be Glory.” |
